Announcements: Marian Abernathy - New Director of Membership and Communications for LINGOs

Title

Marian Abernathy - New Director of Membership and Communications for LINGOs

Body

It gives LINGOs great pleasure to announce that Marian Abernathy will be assuming the role of Director of Membership and Communications for LINGOs beginning in February. Marian has been involved with LINGOs for over four years as a Member key contact for Ipas (www.ipas.org) and for the past two years as a member of the LINGOs Board of Directors.
Many LINGOs members already know Marian through her active participation in LINGOs annual member meetings, in the Elliott Masie Learning Conferences, in the eLearning Guild Meetings and in many LINGOs webinars over the years including several she led. She has been instrumental in the launching of IpasTutor, the learning management system portal used by Ipas employees around the world and also an external portal, IpasU, to reach clinicians and others who would not normally be able to participate in Ipas training programs, as well as those traditionally taught through face-to-face Ipas training events.. Her experience implementing LINGOs tools and services will be invaluable as she assists LINGOs members with their learning strategies.
Marian began her career as a rural health educator in Honduras for the Peace Corps. She returned to the US and received a Masters in Public Health from UCLA. She then joined Ipas where she has worked in a variety of positions over the past 19 years including Program Associate for Latin America, Director of Training and Service Delivery Improvement and Senior Advisor. She is fluent in Spanish.
In addition to her extensive experience implementing LINGOs tools and services at Ipas, Marian has developed numerous training programs for women’s reproductive health and designed and delivered workshops on the subject throughout Latin America, Asia and Africa. She has supervised a staff of 35 people in 13 countries focusing on service delivery improvement. Most recently, she led an initiative to define needs and build capacity for linking to existing public sector supply systems for service delivery programs.
We are very excited to have Marian’s direct experience with implementing LINGOs solutions available to our members as they continue to expand the reach of their professional development efforts. Her work in the field, her fluency in Spanish and her experience in public health will all be enormously helpful to the LINGOs Team as we continue to expand the scope of our support to our international NGO members.
Marian lives in Durham, North Carolina, USA (GMT-5 for our virtual world) with her husband and two children.
