Staff of LINGOs Member Agencies may choose to pursue the certificate programs by completing a series of courses. Requirements can be found on the eCornell website.
eCornell is highly supportive of LINGOs vision of making world class learning available to anyone working in the developing world to reduce poverty and alleviate suffering, and has expanded access to LINGOs Member Agencies while reducing the administrative burden on LINGOs Member Agency Administrators 2012.
Effective January 2012, eCornell courses are available ONLY to LINGOs Member Agency Staff for a steeply discounted price of US$45 (course notes are an additional $5).
Member Agencies have three options to access eCornell’s award winning program through LINGOs:
1. Staff members may purchase seats individually with a credit card at the time of registration. (American Express, Discover, Visa, Mastercard accepted.)
2. Agency may purchase blocks of seats in quantities of at least 50. These seats can be used between Jan 1, 2012 and Dec 31, 2014.
3. Agency may purchase dedicated section of a course where seats are only available to staff of that agency.
For options 2 and 3, please check with LINGOs for details and pricing. To access the eCornell benefit through LINGOs, member agencies must have an administrator in place, who:
-Reviews access monthly and confirms that access is granted only to staff from her/his agency. Individuals who do not work for a member agency are responsible for the full retail cost of a seat (in most cases US$699 plus processing fees).
- Ensures that at least 80% of all students who are registered will complete the course. If an agency drops below 80% they will be asked to discontinue the use of the benefit.
- Manages access to registration for pre-purchased seats or dedicated sections.
Format of the Class
eCornell offers its courses in an asynchronous format during a pre-determined two –week time frame. Students do not have to be on the computer at a specific time of day; but must complete the work within the course period. This means that the learner completes assignments with the class, participates in mandatory discussion boards, interacts with the instructor, and may attend office hours with the instructor.
Students must have a reliable internet connection, strong fluency in English, and between 10-20 hours available over a two week course session.
What to Expect
Plan on a LOT of reading and a LOT of homework. An average class takes 10-20 hours to complete. It is not unusual for an instructor to return homework to a student and ask for revisions on the assignment to successfully complete the course. Students are required to participate in the group discussions (through a discussion board). It’s helpful to complete the eCornell profile to interact with fellow students.
How to Register
Staff members of LINGOs member agencies may access courses through http://ecornell.com/lingoscc , where they may purchase seats for US$45 per seat (the optional course notes are an additional US$5). Students must register with their agency email address.
Agencies that opt to pre-purchase seats and administer registration for staff will use a registration site with a different URL.
For more information on pre-purchasing a block of seats or dedicated sections, or for more information on the registration process, please send an email to memberservices (at) lingos.org.
