eCornell provides free seats to employees of LINGOs member agencies in the following areas:
- Project Leadership
- Management Essentials
- Leadership and Strategic Management
- Financial Management.
- HR Management
Courses are combined to create certificates in specific areas from Cornell University; courses also provide continuing education units. These are blended courses which provide students remote access to live instructors, discussion sessions with other students, and online materials.
Seat Limitations: Each Level 1 Member from LINGOs receives up to 100 free seats. Each Level 2 Member receives up to 200 free seats. The one exception on free courses is LSM 509 “Unlocking Your Leadership Potential" eCornell does offer this to the LINGOs members just not as a free course. Due to the costs associated with this course and the required 360 assessments, they do charge for this one. To register for the LSM509 course, you may go to http://www.ecornell.com/lingoscc. We apologize for the inconvenience.
The administrator for each agency controls who is accepted in to a course. The organization must agree that only students from their agency attend the courses and they maintain an above 80% completion rate. (Students who are approved and start a course count toward the number of seats and toward completion. So for example, if a student drops out of a course they receive an incomplete. If a student transfers this also costs the agency a seat for the year, as well, counts toward an incomplete.
Agency requirements: Agencies who decide to deploy eCornell courses must agree to the following:
1. At least 80% of all students who are registered will complete the course. If an agency drops below 80% they will be asked to discontinue the use of the benefit.
2. Agencies requesting more than 5 seats a quarter must provide a trained administrator to their program. This person will register students, run reports, respond to student questions, and ensure the agencies reaches the 80% completion goal. They will also ensure the agency stays within the limitation of the number of seats donated by eCornell. The admnistrator will review the recorded webinar on eCornell administration provided in the LINKS section.
3. Provide an administrator who will learn the eCornell registration process which means ensuring students are employees of the agency, ensuring the agency maintains above an 80% completion rate, registering students in a timely manner (finding a backup registrar when they are vaction) and offering front line support to student attending the courses. Administrators will also set policy on who should attend the courses given their are limited seats.
Format of the Class: While this is an online course, each student belongs to a class. This means that you complete assignments with the class, have open discussions, interact with the instructor, and even have office hours with the instructor. The classes are done in an asynchronous format which means the students do not have to be on the computer at a specific time.
There is LOTS of reading and LOTS of homework. An average class takes 6 hours to complete. You can expect that the instructor will RETURN your homework and ask you to redo parts of it. The class is run over a very specific amount of time (several weeks) and you must complete your homework during the time. It's also mandatory that you participate in the group discussions and fill out a profile on yourself so you can interact with your fellow students. Students who chose to pursue the certificate programs, complete a series of courses; requirements can be found on the eCornell website.
How to Register for a Free Course To see the courses available go to: http://www.ecornell.com/lingos. Each registration will be approved by the member agency (the LMS Administrator). Until a student has completed at least one course, we ask that you do not sign up for more than one course.
