 SCORM Dispatch

 I’m happy to say that our LMS is now up and running! We launched to Managers yesterday and will launch to All Staff next week. Robb and his team were a tremendous help to us and our experience working with them was very positive. You have a great team!

Overview

SCORM Dispatch will allow access to courses in the LINGOs library without requiring LINGOs member agencies to use the standard IntraLearn LMS sub-portal provided as part of LINGOs membership. Member agencies wishing to use SCORM Dispatch will need to be Level 2 or Enterprise members (or upgrade current membership to Level 2 or Enterprise).

Why Might an Agency Want to Use SCORM Dispatch?

There are various scenarios where SCORM Dispatch would be of benefit to a LINGOs member agency.

The SCORM Dispatch product is designed to address the needs of any LINGOs member agency that desires a level of LMS functionality, customization, and/or systems integration that extends beyond the capacity of the standard IntraLearn LMS sub-portal benefit that comes with LINGOs membership.

For example,

IF an agency wanted to:

  • Synchronize user data between an LMS and internal systems (HRIS, talent management systems, etc.);
  • Establish a single sign-on between an LMS and internal systems (SharePoint sites, internal web sites, etc.);
  • Configure an LMS that generates custom reports;
  • Create a system whereby LMS usage reports are e-mailed to targeted groups or available for download;
  • Deploy an LMS that has more robust social networking features, talent management capabilities, or more robust course management features than currently exist;

THEN the option exists for an agency to deploy an LMS of its choice that includes the precise functionality it requires, while permitting full code access for the agency to customize/integrate that LMS as they choose. The agency's LMS would be hosted, managed, and supported using the agency's own technical and human resources (or hosting company of choice). The SCORM Dispatch add-on, in turn, would provide the bridge through which the courses in the LINGOs library would be transmitted to the agency's new LMS.

How Does SCORM Dispatch Work?

  • The LINGOs member agency will identify each course via title and course code from the LINGOs catalog that the agency wishes to make available within their LMS of choice.
  • LINGOs will provide the agency a small zip file for each course identified by the agency. This zip file will not contain content (content is hosted by LINGOs via SCORM Dispatch). The zip file will contain a SCORM package (including an imsmanifest.xml file) with pointers and member agency-specific authentication credentials for SCORM Dispatch.
  • The agency will import each SCORM package into their LMS of choice using whatever process their LMS of choice provides to import a SCORM 1.2 conformant course. (For agencies currently familiar with importing SCORM 1.2 conformant courses within the IntraLearn LMS sub-portal provided as part of LINGOs membership, that process is a simple 3-step process.)
  • Once the SCORM package provided for a course has been imported into the agency's LMS of choice, it should be available in the LMS course library as if it was a complete course. The agency can use their LMS course management features to make the course available, set begin and end dates, enroll users, etc.
  • Once the member agency user is registered for a course available via SCORM Dispatch, the user will log into the member agency's LMS of choice and access the course. The small SCORM package that was imported by the member agency will communicate with SCORM Dispatch (via standard SCORM 1.2 communication processes), pass needed authentication information (unique user identifier, course accessed, etc.), and display the course content to the user. As the user progresses through the course, certain information will be communicated back to the member agency's LMS of choice (via standard SCORM 1.2 communication processes). This process should be transparent to the user (although, if the browser window in the member's LMS of choice displays the current URL, the user may notice that the URL has changed once they are passed through to a course hosted on SCORM Dispatch.)

What are the System Requirements for SCORM Dispatch?

In order to utilize SCORM Dispatch, the LINGOs member agency's LMS of choice must fully support adding, launching, and tracking of SCORM 1.2-conformant courses.

SCORM Dispatch uses TCP port 80 for communication.

What are the End-User Requirements for SCORM Dispatch?

The end-user requirements are:

  • Browsers: Internet Explorer 6.x, 7.x, or 8.x OR Firefox 3.x. The user's browser must also support:
    • JavaScript
    • Pop-up windows for the SCORM Dispatch domain
    • Depending on the user's browser and/or computer security settings, the user may have to add the SCORM Dispatch domain as a trusted site in the browser
  • Operating Systems: Computers capable of running browser software above
  • Screen Resolution: 800 x 600 minimum; 1024 x 600 or 1024 x 768 recommended
  • Connectivity: 56 Kbps minimum
  • Firewall: Depending on the user's computer and network security requirements, the user may have to add the SCORM Dispatch domain as a trusted domain in their software/hardware firewall.

Content for courses from the LINGOs catalog may have higher minimum requirements than those stated above. For more information on vendor-specific content requirements, click here.

What Support Is Available for SCORM Dispatch?

If an issue is identified by a member agency, LINGOs will forward the issue to our SCORM Dispatch consultants for further resolution. If the issue is identified as a SCORM Dispatch issue, LINGOs will work with the consultants to correct the problem at no cost to the member agency.

If the issue is identified as an issue with the member agency's LMS of choice and how it conforms to SCORM 1.2 standards or launches the course, it will be the agency's responsibility to work with their LMS vendor and/or directly with our SCORM Dispatch consultants to resolve the issue(s). All support agreements and costs for such support will be the responsibility of the LINGOs member agency.

How Much Does SCORM Dispatch Cost?

One installation of SCORM Dispatch is included in Enterprise membership but is an add-on product that is not part of Level 2 LINGOs membership. Member agencies wishing to utilize SCORM Dispatch will need to be Level 2 or Enterprise members (or upgrade current membership to Level 2 or Enterprise).

There is a one-time fee of $2,500 plus an annual maintenance fee (pro-rated based on the date of your organization's SCORM Dispatch license agreement) of $1,000 associated with the use of SCORM Dispatch for Level 2 members (these fees are waived for the first SCORM Dispatch installation for Enterprise members).

SCORM Dispatch licensing encompasses course package installation by the member agency on a single instance of the LMS of choice. Installation on additional instances of the LMS of choice will require an additional purchase(s) of SCORM Dispatch per instance. LINGOs reserves the right to adjust the costs associated with SCORM Dispatch as necessary. LINGOs also reserves the right to temporarily shut off access to SCORM Dispatch if a member agency is behind in paying for any LINGOs services and reserves the right to permanently discontinue access to SCORM Dispatch if an agency is no longer a LINGOs member.
