 The PMDPro Certification

New Page 1

The Project Management in Development (PMD-Pro) is a new three-level certification sequence for project managers working in the international development sector.  The goal of the PMD-Pro is to:

·        confer a professional certification status for project managers in the sector

·        provide certification and learning resources that are comprehensive, accessible and appropriate to professionals working in the sector

·        integrate content that is contextualized to the international development sector with other internationally-recognised certifications.

Level 1 (PMD-Pro1) is intended as an introduction to those new to project management, but will also serve as a refresher for those with experience working in a project-based environment.  In addition to the traditional project management processes, tools and techniques , the "Conceptual Design " process group is introduced, in recognition that Project Managers working in the Development sector  are held accountable for needs assessment and programme design and monitoring at the Outcomes / Objectives level as well as the Outputs / Deliverables level. The emphasis in this level is topics most likely to be used in an NGO setting.

Level 2 (PMD-Pro2) is made up of an internationally-recognised entry-level project management certification (currently the Certified Associate of Project Management or the PRINCE2 Foundation), plus contextualised components which are more specific to the Development sector.

Level 3 (PMD-Pro3) is made up of an industry-recognised project management certification (currently the Project Management Professional or PRINCE2 Practitioner) plus the contextualised components from Level 2 and an assessment of experience, which focuses on evidence that the candidate is able to apply his or her project management knowledge effectively.
