The one-day program will launch with a keynote presentation by John Cropper of
Oxfam UK (see bio below), who will provide a survey of the current state of

themes:
-
Project Management
Staff Capacity Building Resources:
“What are some of
the capacity building resources available to international organizations to
help staff improve their project management competencies (technical,
leadership, personal, other)?
Michael Culligan
of LINGOs will facilitate this session which will explore:
o
Free and highly
subsidized project management learning resources available to project managers
working in the areas of development, relief and conservation;
o
Approaches to
ensure that resources are available to, and accessible by, national staff
located in field offices;
o
Informal
Learning options that exist for iNGO Project Managers.
-
Project Management
Certification:
“What options exist for project managers to pursue professional
certification credentials which are contextualized to the international
development, relief and conservation sectors?”
The PM4NGOs Initiative
(an inter-agency working group aiming to improve project management capacity and
impact) is working with APMG to develop a contextualized certification scheme
for project managers working in the field of international development, relief
and conservation. This session’s objectives will include:
o
A facilitated conversation on the challenges of introducing/adopting
certification credentials in the international development, relief and
conservation sectors;
o
An introduction to the contextualized certification scheme, including a mapping
of curricular content for both Level One and Level Two contextualized
certifications;
o
A review/discussion of the draft content to be included in Level One and Level
Two contextualized certification examinations.
-
Project Management
Systems:
“What solutions,
tools, and best practices are currently in use by international
organizations to manage portfolios of projects?”
This
participatory session will include presentations by organizations that have
developed/deployed project management information systems designed to improve
project efficiency and impact. Topics addressed will include:
o
A current state
analysis of project management information management in the sector;
